Don’t Let The Past Hold You Back

A reflective space to understand and change unhelpful patterns.

The aim is not only to understand these patterns, but to begin shifting them so you can respond in new and healthier ways. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, low mood, burnout, or difficulties in relationships, therapy offers space for deeper self-understanding and lasting change.

Making Change in the Present.

Understanding the past is important, but therapy is also about changing how you respond in the present.

In our work together we look carefully at the patterns that shape how you think, feel, and relate to others. This often involves exploring how earlier experiences and coping strategies continue to influence current relationships, emotional reactions, and decisions.

As these patterns become clearer, new ways of responding can begin to develop. Over time, this can reduce the hold that old experiences and habits may still have on your life.

People often come to therapy wanting to set boundaries without guilt or fear, feel less emotionally reactive and more steady, develop a stronger sense of self-worth, and navigate relationships with greater understanding and confidence.

Self-Awareness and Understanding

How I Work

My approach to therapy is relational, collaborative, and psychologically informed. We work together to develop a shared understanding of what has been shaping your difficulties, paying attention to emotional experience, relationships, and the ways you have learned to cope.

Therapy is shaped around you rather than applied as a formula. While ideas from approaches such as Cognitive Analytic Therapy, mentalization-based thinking, attachment theory, and psychodynamic psychology inform my work, they are used flexibly rather than rigidly.

The emphasis is on thinking together — noticing patterns as they appear in your life and within the therapy relationship itself, and gradually discovering new ways of responding where old patterns no longer feel helpful.

What Therapy Here Is Like

People often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally disconnected, or caught in patterns they can’t fully make sense of. Others arrive with a good understanding of themselves but find that insight alone hasn’t led to meaningful change.

Therapy with me offers a steady and thoughtful space to slow things down and explore what’s really going on beneath the surface. Rather than rushing toward solutions, we take time to understand the emotional patterns, relationships, and experiences that may be shaping how you feel and respond today.

You’ll be met with care, curiosity, and psychological depth, including when the work involves long-standing or painful difficulties.

With greater self-awareness, change becomes possible.

Through therapy, many people begin to make sense of emotional reactions and inner conflicts and recognise repeating patterns in relationships or self-criticism. Over time, this can help people develop a steadier and more compassionate relationship with themselves and respond to situations that once felt overwhelming with greater stability and choice. Greater understanding often leads to meaningful shifts in how you experience yourself, your relationships, and the challenges you face.

Am I the Right Therapist for You?

Therapy with me tends to suit people who are open to reflection and interested in understanding themselves more deeply.

You may find this approach helpful if you:

  • feel stuck in emotional or relational patterns that keep repeating
  • experience anxiety, low mood, or emotional overwhelm that hasn’t shifted
  • struggle with self-criticism, shame, or low self-worth
  • find relationships difficult to navigate or sustain
  • want to understand yourself more deeply rather than simply manage symptoms

You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear explanation of what’s wrong. Many people come to therapy with a sense that something isn’t working, even if it’s difficult to put into words.

Getting Started

If you’re exploring this page, you may already be taking the first steps toward making a positive change in your life.

Choosing a therapist can feel daunting. It’s natural to wonder whether someone will understand you, whether the approach will feel right, and how you’ll know if it’s a good fit.

For that reason, I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation via Zoom. This gives us a chance to meet, for you to get a sense of what I’m like to work with, and for me to understand a little more about what has brought you to therapy.

During this conversation you can outline the challenges you’re facing, ask questions about how I work, and learn more about what the first few sessions might involve.

If the conversation feels helpful and you feel comfortable with the approach, we can then arrange ongoing sessions and begin the work together.
